  1. Post job descriptions for all available positions on 握手 prior to hiring student employees.
  2. Update the job posting on 握手 to indicate that the position is “filled” after a student is hired.
  3. 检查 学生就业 Additional Information Form when it is provided to you, or send it to students who need to complete it.
  4. 分享 Authorization to Hire Form with students to begin the hiring process.

  6. Ensure timecards are accurate and submitted in a timely manner for work performed.
  7. Determine the student has performed the job in a satisfactory manner.
  8. Communicate with the student about their experience in the role and provide feedback on the student’s performance.

批准时间

作为主管, you are expected to review and approve the hours your employees submit each pay period to ensure they are for the correct pay period.

  • Supervisors should ensure timecards are completed after each shift, indicating all hours worked during the pay period.
  • Supervisors approve timecards in 工作日.  
  • Timecard approval is due every other Monday by 10 am, unless otherwise communicated. 
  • Timecards not approved by supervisors by the published deadlines will still be processed and paid as reported.

Scheduling Work Hours

When scheduling work hours, employers should be flexible and remember the student’s primary purpose at Pitzer is academics. In order to focus on academics, Pitzer recommends that students work no more than 10 – 15 hours/week while school is in session.

If students are required to work extended hours, that my result in overtime, the following is considered overtime:

  • Time worked over 8 hours in one day, OR
  • Time worked over 40 hours in a work week, OR
  • Any hours worked on the 7th consecutive day in a work week

Double time is paid for time worked over 12 hours in one day OR over 8 hours on the 7th consecutive day within a work week.

If students work more than five hours in one day, they are required to take a meal break of at least 30 minutes. They must clock out at the beginning of their meal break and clock in upon their return. 他们应该 start their break before the 5th hour BEGINS to avoid a meal penalty. Under California law, when an employee fails to take their meal break prior to the fifth hour, a premium (penalty) is owed to the employee. The penalty is one hour of extra pay for each work day that this occurs.

Students are also entitled to a 10-minute rest break for every two consecutive hours that they work. Rest breaks are paid time and should not be recorded 在他们的考勤卡上.

Labor law violations: It is a violation of California and federal labor laws not to pay employees in a timely manner. All supervisors are urged to recognize the importance of submitting and approving timecards on time in 工作日. We appreciate your cooperation and assistance in this matter.

Be timely with timesheets!

According to Federal regulations, students may not be placed in work-study jobs which:

  • Result in the displacement of employed workers or impair existing contracts for services.
  • Involve any partisan or non-partisan political activity associated with a candidate, contending faction or group in an election for public or party office.
  • Involve the construction, operation or maintenance of any facility that is to be used for sectarian instruction or as a place of religious worship.
  • Students solicit or permit the soliciting of any fee, 委员会, contribution or gift as a condition for a student’s work-study employment.
